PNEC Safe Conference Policy
A Word of
Introduction
In light of the
pressures and dangers often present in today’s society, churches
and church organizations are becoming increasingly aware of the
need to ensure that they are places of “sanctuary,” places where
believers and seekers can gather to grow and mature in their
faith in an atmosphere that is free from all forms of
discrimination, harassment, exploitation, or intimidation. As a
result many local congregations are adopting “Safe Church
Policies.”
The Penn
Northeast Conference Board of Directors both affirms the efforts
of our local congregations to create and maintain communities of
trust, safety, and security and acknowledges our obligation and
desire to do the same. As a result at the August 13, 2008
meeting of the Penn Northeast Conference Board of Directors, the
Board adopted the attached document as the Penn Northeast
Conference of the United Church of Christ Safe Conference Policy.
We would urge
each congregation that has not yet discussed or adopted such a
policy to begin to study this issue. As a Conference Staff we
are prepared to help you by providing sample policies and
educational assistance.
