Voter SABBATH
Dear Clergy Leaders of Berks, Lehigh, and Northampton Counties,
We are now just over two weeks away from the deadline to register voters for the upcoming election. The official end date is Tuesday October 9th.
To ensure that as many people who want to vote can, CUNA is participating in the Voter Sabbath effort led by the PICO National Network that looks to get as many congregations and faith communities talking about voting and civic engagement between Friday, September 21st – Sunday September 30th.
To join in this nationwide opportunity all you have to do is click this link and walk through the simple on-line form: http://www.piconetwork.org/pages/vr-sabbath-sign-up
What I personally like about this effort is that it offers congregations a variety of ways to be involved, everyone doesn’t have to have a full on voter registration drive.
Here are some of the options you can choose from: · Register Voters. I/we will register voters at our services. · Teach. I will lead a study or class on civic engagement. · Preach. I will preach on civic engagement as an expression of faith
To help with these options CUNA is prepared to offer you and your congregation a number of options to make this project as simple as possible for you. · We can have a staff organizer who can attend your faith service (either this weekend or next) make an announcement, speak with your members, answer questions, etc… · We can get a team of voter registration canvassers from Keystone Votes (a non-partisan) voter registration effort, who can be stationed after your service to register voters. · We can reach out to the ACLU and the Allentown NAACP to get copies of Voter ID cards for you to hand out to your members so they can make sure they have the right identification to vote.
Thank you in advance for considering participating in this effort. Let me know if you would like to move on any of the above options.
Respectfully,
Joshua A. Chisholm Executive Director Congregations United for Neighborhood Action (CUNA) Phone: 610-434-1260 Mobile: 215-764-0741 Email: cuna.director@rcn.com
CUNA is a non-partisan organization that does not endorse or oppose candidates for office. CUNA is an affiliate of the PICO National Network
